Juventus are one of three teams from Italy who have won the Champions League (AC Milan: 7, Inter Milan: 3), and are tied with Bayern Munich for the most finals lost (5). Juventus's first appearance in the Champions League, came in the 19857-58 season when they were eliminated in the preliminary round against Austrian side, Weiner Sport-Club 8-3 on aggregate. Juventus's first appearance in the final came in 1973, against Ajax, but the Italians lost to the Dutch 1-0, in the final in Belgrade. 10 years later, Juventus returned to the final but lost again 1-0. This time, in the hands of Hamburger SV in the Greek capital, Athens. Juventus's first Champions League came in 1985, when they defeated Liverpool 1-0 in Brussels. Between 1995 and 1998, Juventus reached three consecutive finals, winning the first one on penalties against Ajax before losing to Borussia Dortmund (1997, 3-1) and Real Madrid (1998, 1-0). In 2003, Juventus made their first final of the 21st century, however lost in the first all-Italian final against AC Milan on penalties. 12 years later, Juventus played Barcelona in the final in Berlin, but lost 3-1 before losing again in 2017 against Real Madrid 4-1. Since then, the furthest Juventus have been in the Champions League was the quarter finals twice. Juventus are not currently competing in the 2023-24 Champions League but we could se them return to the competition very soon.
